I have watched season 1 of the 2025 adaptation of The Forsytes. The story is intriguing. I recognize several of the cast from other projects.
I love a historical fiction drama piece. The show is about a family of investors. There is a lot riding on the succession plan.
I love ambitious wives. The show started with Jo and Frances being a truly devoted couple.
I know it’s a drama but their marriage falling apart was so disappointing.
I wish shows subverted the illegitimate children and wife leaving narrative. Can a couple be happy and work together in one of these dramas.
It’s not really the romance genre. So there’s no guarantee of a happily ever after.
I want to see in media more examples of healthy relationships. I want to see more happy marriages.
I don’t think Jo or Frances are bad people in the show. Frances wants things as they were before they knew Jo’s children existed. And Jo cannot abandon his children now that he knows about them, he wants to be in their lives.
It’s a shame blended families were more complicated and shunned in the era the show takes place.
The show is good and interesting and I recommend it.
I definitely want a second season.
I want some marriages on screen that stand up to marriage vows. I wish people held all of them as sacred.
I’m here for the scheming and difficult decisions. And married couples face challenges but can I see drama where at least of the presently married main characters honor their vows in entirety.
Every character has a line somewhere can we normalize on screen that marriage vows- honoring one’s partner is a line one will not cross. Some will do it. And the good guys may lose everything.
It would be more dramatic and more shocking if people told stories where some of the characters had health marriages. But they are few and far between in the media I consume.
Anyway the Forsytes is not such a story. But it is intriguing and lovely all the same. The show is well acted. The costumes are beautiful.
I have no complaints about the show in particular.
